The fifth annual Edmonds Clam Chowder Cook-Off will have a new twist this coming February 22, 2020, an international competitor! Early this year in Funabashi, Japan they held their first clam chowder event which was modeled after the popular Edmonds event. The contest went so well that next month Funabashi will hold their second competition.
In hearing about the competition, a partnership was formed between Edmonds and Funabashi. The Edmonds Chamber has agreed to host the winning team from Japan in our competition this coming February. Ten local restaurants/caterers, plus the team from Funabashi, will go head-to-head to see who can wow the crowd and our panel of guest judges hoping to be crowned “The Best Clam Chowder”.
Excitement is already growing as the Funabashi competition sent a press release about the partnership. (https://www.excite.co.jp/news/article/Dreamnews_0000202754/)

The Second Clam Chowder Competition & Bread Festival:
The Winning Team will be Given the Special Opportunity to Appear in a Chowder Cook-Off in Edmonds, Where the Competition Began!
October 1, 2019: Tokyo Art Printing Co., the printing company in Sumida-ku, will hold the Second Clam Chowder Competition & Bread Festival on Saturday, November 30. The winning team will be awarded with a special opportunity.
A representative from Funabashi thought the winning team’s chowder shouldn’t be limited to Japan. Why not take it to the place where the competition started, have people taste the chowder and learn about Funabashi? Following this idea, they found a way for the winning team to present their chowder overseas. After consulting with the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, where the cook-off began, the decision has been made that the winning team will have a special chance to appear in the Edmonds Clam Chowder Cook-Off in on February 22, 2020. As an additional prize, the winning team’s travel expenses to Seattle will be covered. The winning team’s clam chowder will be presented at the cook-off in Edmonds. They might win the competition there, too.
Funabashi is the center for many restaurants, and they will compete for the best clam chowder in the Second Clam Chowder Competition. This is a great chance to try what might be the world’s best clam chowder!
