Letters to Santa Program

  • Edmonds Log Cabin Visitor's Center 120 5th Avenue North Edmonds, WA, 98020 United States (map)

Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024 is the last date to “mail” a letter and get a response.

Located in front of the Edmonds Log Cabin Visitor Center (120 5th Ave N, Edmonds).

Santa’s Mailbox Needs Your Help to Keep the Magic Alive!

For over 40 years, the cherished “Letters to Santa'' mailbox has been posted outside the Edmonds Log Cabin Visitor’s Center the month before Christmas. Kiddos can drop a letter to Santa and get a response letter by Christmas! As you may know, this is a volunteer-run program that the Chamber organizes and pays for.

What you may not know is that the group of volunteers willing to write over 120 letters has dwindled while the number of letters rises by almost 500 a year. Last year just a dozen volunteers responded to the 2,500 letters that were "mailed"! Additionally, at about $1.25 per letter, it is becoming an expensive program to host.

The concern is with the rising growth and excitement of the Letters to Santa program along with the amount of volunteers it takes to run, that we may not be able to fulfill the promise of a returned letter to every kiddo. You can help the magic continue!

Make a cash donation to help cover the cost of stamps, envelopes & stationery.

Become an official sponsor and let the community know you support this beloved program.

Join the esteemed ranks of the heart and soul of this program!

Need to Know before “mailing” a letter to Santa:

  • The deadline to drop off a letter and receive a response is Sunday, Dec. 15.

  • Your return address must be legible on the child’s letter to receive a response.

  • Child’s name needs to be clearly printed or it will be addressed to “my dear friend.”

  • Return times may vary — even by household. The volunteer elves try to respond in the order they come in, but the elves work at different paces as their own lives allow.

  • To get a child’s original letter returned to you: include a PLAIN self-addressed stamped envelope.

  • Please note: the elves never address a child’s gift request.

  • Each elf creates a few original story templates for reply letters to get through the hundreds received. For more personalized responses, kiddos can ask questions, or a caregiver can sneak in a note about what the child has done that year to give us something to work with.

  • Please be patient and practice kindness: this is run entirely by volunteers who put their love and free time into making it happen. They do not get paid and do it for the love of Christmas and delight.

  • The elves love seeing reaction photos/videos! When they are hundreds of letters deep it helps keep the magic alive for them too! These can posted on social media (please tag @edmondschamber) or sent to alicia@edmondschamber.com

  • This is the only mailbox run by the chamber. There may be others around town, but they are not associated with the chamber.
